Summer Season Concert Series - Philly Style: August 19th

North Star Bar:
  Headliner: The Bridge
  Opening Act: Three Legged Fox
  Doors: 6:30pm / Show: 7pm
  Tickets:$10

The Bridge is a rock band whose music combines elements of blues and roots, added with some funk and then, soul. They've recently become known coast-to-coast, and even in Europe, for their gritty and grand live performances and poignantly hand crafted albums. Following in the tradition of classic / southern roots rock, and flavoring their sound with Americana sensibilities, the band has built their own niche between the jam, country, and bluegrass genres. They are traveling nationwide to promote their most recent CD, "Blind Man's Hill", which spent over 3 months in the Americana Radio Top 40.

Johnny Brendas:
  Headliner: Panic Years
Opening Act: Atomic Square / The Defog
  Doors: 8pm / Show: 9pm
  Tickets:$10

Formed in 2007 by two former band-mates, Edward and Amy in the Virginia Beach area where they thought the local music community was lacking support and and were disheartened by being in bands. They decided to start collaborating on a few old ideas and a few new ones with the goal of simply writing good songs. In early 2008, they teamed up with old friends and former Capitol recording artists Mark Padgett and Rob Sweitzer, to produce and record their first self titled Ep. The collabo resulted in a collection of songs that reflect who Edward and Amy are as songwriters. After recording the album, Amy and Edward packed up and moved to Philly where they met Adam Smith and Kevin Kurtz, and are currently playing shows and writing new material.

World Cafe Live:
  Headliner: Lee "Scratch" Perry
  Opening Act: Lionize
  Doors: 7pm / Show: 8pm
  Tickets:$28 - $38

The Godfather of dub and reggae, Grammy winning reggae icon Lee 'Scratch' Perry returns with the sexually charged club anthem "Pum Pum," - the debut single from his latest LP. The album, "Repentance," touches on a multitude of genres ranging from hip-hop & dancehall to club ready dance hits. Perry created a sound in the 60's and 70's that can easily be seen as the prelude to the dance, hip hop and pop music genres which makes it easy to see where artists from Jay Z, Santogold, Hot Chip, M.I.A., to Spank Rock cut their teeth and found their sound. He continues to influence the musical landscape of today by redefining every genre of music he touches with his unprecedented vision and production expertise. He remains revered by his peers and seen as one of the most influential artists by many of todays contemporary performers.

Trocadero:
Headliner: Dean Wareham (plays Galaxie 500)
Opening Act: Dean & Britta Band / Crystal Stilts
  Doors: 8pm / Show: 9pm
  Tickets:$21

Though there's 4 different bands mentioned on this show, the concert revolves around 3 acts that Dean Wareham created. Dean was responsible for or is a member of Galaxie 500 and Dean& Britta.  He formed the band Galaxie 500 in 1987 and after leaving in April 1991, he founded the band Luna. Since Luna's breakup in 2005, Wareham has released albums with fellow Luna bandmate (and wife) Britta Phillips. He also works as a film composer, Dean & Britta have been working on film scores (most notably Noah Baumbach's movie, The Squid and the Whale), and promoting the documentary film of Luna's farewell tour Tell Me Do You Miss Me.
