2010 MTV Video Music Awards - And The Nominees Are ...

So, the 2010 Video Music Awards are going to be held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on September 12 and the full list of nominees has been announced. Lady Gaga  leads the pack by scoring a record-breaking 13 nods. Eminem is the closest one to her as he follows with 8 nominations. MTV is giving fans a chance to vote for their favorites until September 12th. Eminem’s “Not Afraid” is up for Best Male Vide, Best Hip-Hop Video, and Video of the Year.  While Lady Gaga’s two entries: “Bad Romance” and “Telephone” will be going against Eminem in the category of Video of the Year.

So there's a feeling that this is pretty much the Gaga Sweeps Show where anyone who isn't the thirteen-time-nominated Lady is a tramp. But rest assured, Eminem will make a run for Gaga's money...MTV has been known to favor anyone posting a comeback.

Now the VMAs have been known to be pioneering, odd and definitely unlike your traditional award shows. Yet, the buzz on what some of the shocking misses were during the nominee announcements are sure to overshadow some of the hype. Here are but some of what industry writers and bloggers are fussing about :

   - The Black Eyed Peas are no where to be found ... WHAAAAAT??!! So what if most of their party anthems (“Boom Boom Pow,” “I Gotta Feeling” etc.) cam out last year? The VMAs’ eligibility cut-off is supposedly mid-June—but BEP didn’t even make the 2009 nominee list either even thought their hits kept rolling through fall. There is no better definition of an MTV artist than these multi-cultural, platinum selling pop super stars. Their ideos define what MTV Music Videos are all about - fun, hip, relevant and bangin'. Dissed much?

    - Rihanna and Justin Bieber... where are thou?  A Five-week run at the no. #1 Billboard spot, Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” gets only one salt nod - Best Editing. And for the Bieber, his videos may not necessarily be paragons of small-screen creativity, but the VMAs are essentially popularity contests connected only tangentially to artistic merit, so was Beiber not popular enough or did the nominee board skip that past year or so?  they tried to create some sort of make-goods as the hair-swoopy heartbeat of ten million tweens seems to have earned a single Best New Artist nod for “Baby.”

     - So many others have received no noms at all. Now, no matter whether or not you enjoy them, the following artists should have made the nominees list for this type of award show. SHOULD HAVE, but are nowhere to be found - Miley Cyrus (“Party in the USA,” “The Climb,” or “Can’t Be Tamed”?); Adam Lambert; Taio Cruz; Owl City; Mike Posner; Travie McCoy; and OK Go.
