Summer Season Concert Series - Philly Style: August 6th

First Unitarian Sanctuary:
  Headliner: Local Natives
  Opening Act: We Barbarians
  Doors: 7pm / Show: 8pm
  Tickets:SOLD OUT!!

Silverlake’s Local Natives have been known throughout the internet lately, and understandably so. The quintet’s unique indie folk sound showcases their tight vocal harmonies without sacrificing their rolling guitars, keys and percussion or sharp lyrics. Their laid-back and layered folk is a perfect way to wind down the winter season — a warm, blooming cocoon of sound. They have gained popularity in parts of Europe, L.A., and as aforementioned, online. They are sort of a West Coast version of Grizzly Bear.
North Star Bar:
  Headliner:The Flatline Symphony
Opening Act: Life in the Way / The Divided / This
                       Temper
  Doors: 7pm / Show: 8pm

This local rockin' band, formed in 2009, has been making waves with their passionate through-the-roof energy performances and driving melodic music. They can either be New Progressive or Pop Rock, Post-Hardcore, Progressive Pop...but their authentic sound can't be explained merely by genre. Laced with the poetic vocal talents of Anthony Masington, saturated with the riffing guitars of Eric Blacway and Myk Londino, driving rhythm by Bryan Mills on drums and Jimmy Sawchak on Bass. This five-piece movement is sure to leave any listener reinvigorated.

Johnny Brendas:
  Headliner: Turning violet Violet
Opening Act: The Vanguard / Gemini Wolf / Meg and Rob
  Doors: 8pm / Show: 9pm
  Tickets: $10

This Philly based indie band has been described as, "an indie outfit around a couple of years now that merges chamber-pop, jazzy textures, and quirky, literate storytelling in sharp and elegant arrangements. Here to promote their new EP, "Fierce Remains". Brandon, Sarah, Sarah Steve and Jeff make up this funny and talented 5 piece band that began as a musical trio in late 2008. They borrowed their name from Brandon's favorite movie of all times. They've often been acknowledged for their diverse instrumentation and unconventional stories while their live shows are a spectacle in itself with colorful instruments, passionate performing, and a ton of violet.
World Cafe Live:
  Headliner: TaraGirl
  Opening Act:
  Doors: 9pm / Show: 10pm
  Tickets: $15
Emerging R&B/soul artist Taragirl has been wowing audiences with her incredible voice and captivating stage presence. With two indie albums - "The 26th Power" and "The City: Soul Suite" under her belt, she is considered an instant classic in her genre. Press love to cite her as the "continuation of the Philly soul sound" (GO Magazine). Well, she definitely has the vocals to back it up.  She's made a name for herself since relocating to Philly from NYC in 2004. Taragilr has opened up with such noteworthy artists as Chaka Khan, Amy Winehouse, The Brand New Heavies, Leela James and Chrisette Michele amongst others. Her sweet soul-meets-girl power energy will keep fans bodies and spirits moving with a non-stop, powerful set of the best hip-hop soul, r&b and pop this side of the globe. GET IN!
Susquehanna Bank Center:
  Headliner: KISS
Opening Act: The Academy Is… / The Envy
  Doors: 5:30pm / Show: 6:30pm
  Tickets: $75.50 - $130.75
Probably one of the last times you'll see these legendary rockers in town. The "Hottest Show On Earth" tour is here at the right time of the season. If the temperature doesn't hit 100 degrees outside, it'll get 100 inside this venue for sure. Paul Stanley's vocals (always from the rough side of town) may be a bit thin a times, and perhaps bassist Gene Simmons stomps more deliberately in his massive high-heeled dragon boots than he did 30 years ago, but this is why Kiss is recession-proof. Anyone in this maniacal sold-out audience is likely to get a raucous high five from someone wearing a Kiss T-shirt who was modeling Kiss face paint and dragging along a couple of third generation mini-Kiss fans whose minds were just blown. Just watch out that you don't get lost after the massive confetti canons belch two forests-worth of fluff into the air during a blinding fireworks explosion.
