First Unitarian Church:
Headliner: EyeHateGod
Opening Act: Brutal Truth / Nachtmystium / Black Anvil / Tombs
Doors: 6:30pm / Show: 7pm
Tix:$20
The New Orleans masters of sludge-core are in town tonight. Their first three LPs still remain untouchable to this day with their creeping and slithering sound that uncompromisingly brutal and crushingly heavy. Pretty much defining the sound of ALL metal/sludge to come with just a little bit of that NOLA groove. Take that with a grain of salt, melodic and catchy for a band. Their sound can be of the scariest, heaviest, druggiest, sludgiest stoner rock band EVER. A groove flecked avalanche of slow motion ultradoom, screeching feedback, shrieking throat ripping vocals, blackhole downtuned guitars, all churning in a black sea of sludgemetal tar, lurching, and trudging and so awesome!
Kung Fu Nectie:
Headliner: This Will Destroy You
Opening Act: Light Pollution / Slow Six
Doors: 6:30pm / Show: 7:30pm
Tix:$10
This Texas band possesses that brooding, post rock epic majesty sort of thing, but they definitely have their own take on that sound. Seems like what many would go nuts for these guys. Big heavy drums, and ethereal guitar shimmer, the melodies lilting and minor key, buried beneath the sheets of guitars and what could be buried vocals, plenty of effects and weird bits of grind and crunch, the sound continually growing more and more dense, until the drums disappear, leaving just a slow drift of muted thrum and bits of record crackle, and a barely there melody, which gives way to some super hushed post rocky slowcore, the drums delicate, the rest of the instruments chiming and softly swelling, building there way back up, but this time, they're joined by what sounds of horns, and don't explode in climax, instead just sort of moan and drift wearily, very rainy day sounding, not quite funereal, but definitely wistful, before slipping back into soft effected shimmer.

Throbbing funk, fiery Balkan brass, Gypsy accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops make Slavic Soul Party! NYC's official #1 brass band for BalkanSoul GypsyFunk. SSP! has created an acoustic mash-up of Balkan and Gypsy sounds with North American music, weaving the gospel, techno, funk, dub, jazz, and Latin influences of NYC's neighborhoods into a Balkan brass setting. Their original sound has never been clearer than on their new cd Taketron, a surprising re-imagining of brass band dance music that includes only two traditional songs (a blazing Moldovan oompah and a soulful Gospel journey). SSP!'s music has won the ear of fans and musicians on both sides of the Atlantic, and their tunes have been learned by Serbian brass stars Boban Markovic Orkestar and New Orleans funk sensations Gala ctic, among others. In addition to touring throughout the US and Europe, SSP! holds down a residency every Tuesday in Brooklyn which has become a destination for music fans from around the world.
