Summer Season Concert Series - Philly Style: May 5th

The Trocadero:
     Headliner: YEASAYER
     Opening Act: Sleigh Bells
     Doors: 8pm / Show: 8:30pm
     Tix: SOLD OUT!!

Yeasayer’s left-field approach to indie rock, just as the band members wear mismatched outfits, their music seems a poor fit with their indie-rock brethren. This group de-emphasizes rock conventions like rock power chords, heavy-handed drumming , in favor of influences drawn from hip-hop, world music and even disco. Nobody sounds quite like them, and it explains why the Brooklyn band has ascended so quickly

World Live Cafe:
     Headliner: As Tall As Lions
Opening Acts:The Paper Raincoat, Bear Hands
     Doors: 7pm / Show: 8:00pm
     Tix: $15

Hailing from Long Island, NY's indie-rock, emo and pop-punk bed, As Tall As Lions have developed a different musical approach combining the lush tones of ambient pop, the creativity of 70's album rock, the subtle passion of the late 1980's C-86 movement, and today's "not so emo" writing style. As a band, they hope to define a new genre.

The Electric Factory:
     Headliner: Sublime w/ Rome
Opening Acts: Dirty Heads, Del Mar
     Doors: 8pm / Show: 8:30pm
     Tix: SOLD OUT!!

The surviving members (now officially known as Sublime with Rome) of the original college party band are hoping fans will embrace new front man Rome Ramirez. Drummer Bud Gaugh and bass player Eric Wilson had wrangled in recent months with Bradley Nowell’s family and the executors of his estate over using the trademarked name, but the case was settled and the (legal, anyway) blessing bestowed. This show seems a sure-fire money maker with existing fans — as well evidenced in it being sold out.

The Theatre of the Living Arts:
     Headliner: We the Kings
Opening Acts: Cartel, Artist Vs. Poet, Stereo Skyline
     Doors: 7pm / Show: 6:30pm
     Tix: $21
A definite crowd pleaser, this Floridian band knows how to connect and bond with their audience by telling stories about the songs before belting into them. It helps that the audience will surely be singing and vibrating with every song, old and new. You'll notice, if you can how the progression of the band's playlist is thought out and quite effective. As the show goes on, the crowd will escalate into a frenzy and beg for more. If you're not a fan ... you will BE!!

Johnny Brenda's:
     Headliner: Murder By Death
Opening Acts: Ha Ha Tonka, Linfinity
     Doors: 8pm / Show: 9pm
     Tix: SOLD OUT!!
Touring in support of their fifth studio album, “Good Morning, Magpie", this Indiana band's show contains some combination of the basic guitar, bass and drums, but also prominently features keyboard solos (in a key which makes them sound like they were stolen out of an old western saloon) and cello solos by Sarah Balliet, which garners the largest and most vociferous reactions. Yet another sell out to help back up the statement!!
